When we sat down with Maria and Mike to discuss photographing their wedding, Maria was quick to tell me that she didn’t want an engagement session. In her native county, they aren’t common, and scheduling would be hard with her work schedule. Engagement sessions are very important to us. They are the first time we get to see the way our couples interact with each other, to engage with them and get to know who they are at their essence. With a little coaxing and the promise of very short session we headed downtown to capture these two in a place that felt comfortable for them both. Downtown Tucson is always a bustle of activity and energy that adds a special something to a session. We walked for a few blocks, laughing with each other and getting to know more about Mike and Maria. Within minutes, Maria laughingly confessed that this time in front of the camera was actually fun! They were having and good time and so were Jon and I.
Jon and Mike were quick to share engineering stories while Maria and got to talk about her wedding plans. I love the unique touches that she will be bringing to her wedding at the Reflections at the Buttes this spring. We ended our session with a double date to one of my favorite downtown eateries, The HUB, where we had some beers, house made pastrami sandwiches and mac-n-cheese drowning in bacon. Photography and good food go hand in hand I think I’d like to make a habit of ending all my sessions with dinner and conversation. It was a supremely enjoyable evening and we are beyond excited to capture Mike and Maria’s wedding in a few months.
Here are a few of our favorite images from Saturday night!
