She is dark chocolate and he is ice cream (always vanilla). She is classical music and he is Top 40. She likes it cool and he prefers it hot. He loves the mountains and she loves the ocean. But, she'd choose the mountains with him over the ocean alone, and he almost always lets her choose the radio station. She turned him into a coffee drinker and he cultivated her love of red wine. Infinitely different, yet, always better together.

Oh, friends, we are so excited to share Alex and Tyler’s Savoy Opera House wedding with you. We are celebrating one full week of Mr. & Mrs. Herbert, with a blog post about their day! The fact that it falls on St Patrick’s day is a bonus! Thanks to the luck of the Irish, it also falls on the first weekend we’ve had off in weeks! We are lifting a glass of Guinness in their honor, tucking into some corned-beef and cabbage, and sharing their wedding story with you.

Alex and Tyler met at a party, introduced by mutual friends, and their connection was instantaneous. We shared their sweet engagement story when we wrote about their engagement session back in September, and that same thoughtful love continued to shine through on their wedding day. It was clear that what mattered to them both, was that the other one was happy.

Alex began her day, getting ready at her childhood home, surrounded by her best friends. There were many details of the day, pointing toward a family legacy of marriage. Alex’s father placed her grandmother’s cross around her neck, worn by all the women in her family. Something old and something new: Alex’s grandmother’s handkerchief and mother’s garter were a perfect choice. Most poignantly, Alex and Tyler got married at the same church her own parent’s said their “I dos”. Stories of family heritage are sort of our thing; knowing that they were sharing their first moment of marriage at the same altar where Alex’s parent had stood before… Well, that got us both feeling a little weepy. My favorite moment of the ceremony was the laughter they shared during the lighting of the unity candle with Tyler’s son, Wesley.

We stepped out of the church to fierce winds and a threatening sky. We made sure to grab a quick photo in front of the church, and quickly improvised our plan to get to the reception at the Savoy Opera House, and hopefully avoid a downpour. Fortunately for us, the rain never became too much to shoot in, and Alex and Tyler were troopers, and braved getting a bit damp! The reception was kicked off with the fantastic Drew Cooper giving a live performance for the couple, and he had people on the dance floor before the party even started! Drew’s singing for the reception was a special surprise for Alex from her dad, who knew that she loved Drew’s music.

From friends who shared in their joy, to the family who wiped tears and hugged them tightly, anyone could see that Alex and Tyler are well loved.
