Where do we even begin trying to describe the amazing experience it was to photograph Aidan and Mary’s wedding celebration. Before we start, let’s give a little back story to how we became acquainted with these two joyful lovebirds! A year ago, Amber was photographing Stephen and Amanda’s wedding when she spotted the most glorious smiles on the dance floor. She was so drawn to these two, that she approached them, asking them to pose for a quick portrait. You can imagine our delight when they asked us to photograph their wedding! The opportunity to spend time with these two, soaking in their infectious joy, was not something we would pass up!
This day was spectacular from start to finish. Kenyan weddings are steeped in customs to honor the bride and groom on their wedding day. I (Amber) felt so sorry for Jon that he was with the men and not participating in the custom of singing the bride out of her home and to the church. As Mary completed her finishing touches getting ready, a chorus began to swell upstairs from the living room down below, calling Mary down to her wedding. So that Mary’s feet wouldn’t touch dirt on her wedding day, they laid colorful scarves at her feet as they sang her to the car waiting to transport her to the church. Even those who didn’t speak a word of Swahili began to sway and hum along with the music as they danced out of the house. It was incredible. Misty Hudson of Folly Photography captured their day on video and sent me a clip to share!
The following day, Aidan and Misty met us in Sedona for some post wedding photos. We were treated to a strawberry moon rising over Cathedral Rock as we ended their session. It was a spectacular end to an even more spectacular wedding. It was absolutely amazing to celebrate along side these two as they met in covenant before the Lord and promised themselves to each other. We are so excited to see where God leads them as they begin their lives together!
