“Ohhh, copywriting for creatives. That’s cool. So what exactly is that?” Since launching this writing gig as a full-time biz, this question has been thrown at me at least 6,578 times. Give or take a few.
Yeah, I get it. Unless you are writing copy (or being told by your website developer to get a copywriter), chances are you are in the statistical majority that has no idea what it means.
The first thing you should know is this is not to be confused with copyrighting. I absolutely cannot help you copyright your brilliant idea for an edamame cookbook or any other intellectual property for that matter. But I can help you put pen to paper (or fingers to keys!) and release those words that feel like they are locked deep inside your mind when it comes to writing about your business.
The second thing you should know is that I am right there with you in the trenches, running a photography business of my own, so I know what it is like to be in the throes of a creative industry. I know that struggle between the business hustle and just wanting to create for creation’s sake. I also know the passion, the drive, and the soul that you have poured into building this little endeavor and the heart you have for wanting to see it grow.
There are a few ways to work with me. The first is copy editing. If you already have some killer copy, with a message that is on point, but you just want a little more polish, this is for you. I’ll come in, clean it up, and make it sparkle with just the right punctuation to make it pretty and ready for publication. This is quick, easy, and doesn’t require much more than a phone call and a Word document to get you started.
If writing about yourself is just taking away from doing what you love, then I’m your gal! You know who you are and what your target audience wants! I’ll take your thoughts, ideas, and heart of your message and put them into copy that connects with your audience. There is no end to the ways copywriting can be used in your business. Personality driven website copy is my specialty. However, I have also written custom canned email responses, bridal fair brochures, blog posts, and social media content.
Sometimes in this creative entrepreneurland, we find ourselves so deeply entrenched in our craft that we fail to recognize what drives us. What sets us apart in our industry is our secret sauce! I love digging deep into what makes your brand different from others in the market. Discovering this helps you find your brand voice, as well as build a strategy around using it to tell your story!
The brand strategy approach to copywriting is more than just pretty words on a page. This approach is the essence of who you are as a brand. YOUR WHY. Using this process will take the most out of you. It’s hard work. It takes honesty and it takes time, but the outcome is worth it. You will have a set of core beliefs that shape your business. We will create a word bank to describe what you do, so that in the future when you write that post for social media, you have just what you need at your fingertips to help you say the right thing. Together we will create a focus for your business so that you are able to communicate what you do and why you are special the next time you are put on the spot with that awkward question, “So what do you do?”
